Season 4

Season 4

Season Four could be described thematically as similar to The Last Temptation of Christ, the Martin Scorsese film. Fox Mulder is forced to reexamine what he knows and what he has come to accept. The season features the demise of Mr. X, and the significant arc of Dana Scully's cancer. The entire season was filled with a great many controversial episodes, as well as episodes that challenged conventions, not only for the series, but for television in general. This season also coincided with the debut of Chris Carter's Millennium, and that dynamic would, with unforeseen consequences, permanently shift the focus on the type of stories the X-Files would tell from that point onward. But for anything that might have been lost, there would be something gained. The season featured the last group of Morgan and Wong episodes to be produced, as well as the departure of Howard Gordon. The season featured some memorable performances by Tom Noonan, as well as a voice-over by Jodie Foster. For everything there is a season, and a wave of change was around the corner...
