Season 7

Season 7

Change was in the air, after the demise of Chris Carter's other series, Millennium. Talents from that show would be brought in. Season Seven became one of the most controversial seasons in the series' history. Before the season's end, David Duchovny's contract with Twentieth Century Fox was complete, and he was to depart. There was also the great uncertainty if the series would continue after that, in spite of still strong ratings. The remnants of the classic mythology would largely end with the resolution of discovering what happened to Mulder's sister, and side mythologies would develop. The season would see crossover episodes of Millennium and Cops, David and Gillian Anderson would write and direct episodes, and even William B. Davis would write an episode. Guest writers William Gibson and Tom Maddox were brought back, as were writers Jeffrey Bell, and David Amann, as well as Millennium writer Chip Johannssen., along with his directing colleague from Millennium, Thomas J. Wright. Even Vince Gilligan would direct his first episode. In terms of guest stars, the season featured a young Shia LaBeouf, as well as Kathy Griffin and Lance Henriksen. Ultimately the season would end with the reappearance of Billy Miles, and the abduction of Fox Mulder, bringing about the final reinvention of The X-Files...
